Shinwon Commits to United Nations Global Compact… Strengthening ESG Management

South Korean fashion company, Shinwon Corporation, has officially joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC,) committing to promote the 10 principles of the UNGC and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

The company formalized its UNGC membership at a signing ceremony held on November 22nd in Seoul that was hosted by the UNGC Korean Association. Shinwon has affirmed its commitment to upholding human rights, fostering a safe and conducive working atmosphere, protecting the environment, implementing policies ensuring transparent corporate management, and delivering sustainable value and benefits to both employees and society. The event where discussions centered on corporate sustainability was attended by JJ Park, CEO of Shinwon, and Yoo Yeon-cheol, Secretary-General of UNGC Korean Association.

  

Shinwon, prompted by its UNGC membership, plans to actively incorporate the 10 principles of UNGC into its business operations and management strategies. Additionally, the company intends to participate in various workshops and seminars led by UNGC as well as submitting reports on its efforts to achieve the SDGs.

  

CEO, JJ Park stated, "Our goal is to leverage Shinwon's technological expertise to provide consumers with excellent products while simultaneously enhancing the rights and quality of life for our workers. Moving forward, we plan to grow alongside the local communities where our overseas subsidiaries are established, creating a future filled with hope.

 

Meanwhile, as Shinwon celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, the company has been making concerted efforts to strengthening its ESG capabilities domestically and internationally. Shinwon has been actively involved in campaigns such as P.A.C.E. (Personal Advancement & Career Enhancement) since 2018 and recently joined the global cooperative organization 'RISE,’ an organization dedicated to improving the rights of female workers. These initiatives have aimed at enhancing the quality of life and leadership development for over 6,000 female workers in overseas production bases, including Guatemala, Nicaragua, Indonesia, and other countries.
